The destructive force can be transmitted through traditional dry elastic metal coupling and lubricated coupling (such as gear or spring coupling). However, if modern permanent magnetic couplings are used in API 610 pumps or ASME B73.1 pumps, these negative effects will be eliminated. This does not mean an unsealed magnetic drive pump, but an independent coupling that replaces conventional (standard) flexible couplings. When used in the range of 1000 hp and below, the permanent magnet coupling is considered to be an improvement on the traditional dry elastic metal coupling, especially in centrifugal pump applications. The author does not advocate the use of magnetic couplings in all applications, but compared with traditional couplings, the advantages of magnetic couplings should be judged by users themselves.
